How much weight can an elevator hold?
A standard home elevator can carry up to 750 pounds. Back to top
What happens when the electricity goes out?
In a power failure, a battery-operated safety feature makes sure passengers are never stranded between floors. Emergency lighting comes on and the controlled safety descent feature automatically takes the car to the lowest floor or another pre-selected floor (some models).

Will the door ever open while the elevator is moving?
No. A locking device on the door prevents it from opening while the elevator is traveling between floors. Back to top
Can the landing door be opened when the elevator is not there?
No. All landing doors are mechanically locked and can only be released when the elevator is at that floor. Back to top

Can you install a stairlift on curved or spiral stairs?
At Accessibility Systems, we've never met a set of stairs we couldn't put a lift on. Stairlifts can run on either side of the stairs. They can take an inside or outside curve and maneuver through landings - easily managing 90 and 180-degree turns. Back to top
Can you install a stairlift outside?
Yes. In fact, there are models specifically manufactured with outdoor conditions in mind. An outdoor unit is weatherized to protect against the elements and comes with a chair cover. To prevent unauthorized use by others, it is equipped with a keyed operation system. Back to top
How much weight can a stairlift hold?
It depends on the manufacturer of the lift, but a stair chair can accommodate up to 400 pounds.

What happens when the electricity goes out?
Many stairlifts provided by Accessibility Systems operate on battery power when you've lost power to your home. Back to top
Is a stairlift the same as a stairglide?
Stairlifts are called many different names, including stairglide, stair chair, chair lift, battery-powered chair, stairway lift, stairway elevator, staircase chair and stair climber. They're also thought of as home medical equipment and durable medical equipment. Back to top
Is the cost of a stairlift covered by my medical insurance or Medicare?
Medicare does not cover the cost of a stair lift. Some private insurers do. Check your policy or talk with your agent to determine what applies in your situation. Back to top
